Mattock is a textured cowl inspired by the rolling farmlands and vineyards surrounding New York’s Finger Lakes region. Featuring a deceptively simple, satisfying repeat of ribbing and seed stitch, wrapped in a prim garter stitch border, this convertible cowl with four functional buttons can be styled many different ways.

Skill Level: Familiar Beginner – Required skills include long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, purl two together, yarn over, standard knitwise bind off. Prior experience with ribbing and seed stitch makes the pattern easy to memorize. Cowl is knit flat.
